There is three stage of IAS exam. First step is Prelimnary Exam. this is like elimanition round. with this exam UPSC selected short listed candidate for mains exam. there is two papers in this pre exam. first optional and second GS Complusory. there is 100 question in optionl paper each question carried 3 markes. and in GS there is 150 question each carried 1 markes. so the total is 450 marks. One who start for pre should go first all NCERT books 9th to 12th class. specially Science, geography, histroy, polity, economics. must read at least one Daily national news paper like The Hindu, Hindustan, Indian Express, etc.
Now choose a subject there is almost every subject in the list of UPSC for selection in pre. and collect good books and material for choosen subject. and start for the great mission to BE A IAS OFFICER.
